Tax Transcript Codes, Explained
570 Additional Review
A hold has been placed on the account while the IRS reviews something, such as identity, income, or credits. It is not a final decision. It often releases and is followed by a refund (846) or a notice (971).
971 Notice Issued
The IRS has sent a notice or letter about the account. The transcript entry usually includes an action date, and the notice itself explains what the IRS is asking for or changing before any deadline so you can respond.
846 Refund Approved
The IRS has approved and issued a refund to the taxpayer. The transcript shows the refund amount and the date it was sent by direct deposit or check.
830 Earned Income Credit
A credit tied to the Earned Income Credit appears on the account. This is a refundable credit for eligible lower and moderate income workers and families, and it can increase your refund.
150 Refund Processed:
The return has been filed and processed, and the tax on it has been calculated (assessed). It confirms the return is in the system. It does not mean the refund has been issued, which is shown by code 846.
290 Additional Tax
The IRS has assessed more tax than was originally reported. This can result from a correction, an amended return, or an audit adjustment on the return.
291 Tax Owed Reduced
A prior tax assessment has been reduced or removed. This can lower the amount owed or increase a refund.
776 Interest Added
Interest has been credited to your account, usually because your refund was issued late. This is money paid, not interest owed.
